5th Annual Imran Sabir Memorial Lecture & Dinner event
Felicity in the face of Adversity
Imam Siraj Wahhaj (USA)
Saturday 1st March 2014 Bradford
Imran Sabir, the founder of Kitaba, who passed away on 1st March 2009 faced many complex health challenges including visual impairment. His significant contribution to improve inclusion for all those with a perceived disability is marked each year with the annual Imran Sabir memorial lecture. His biography written by Shaykh Abdal Aziz, Living with Blindness, has served as a manifesto for Kitaba, keeping Imran’s vision alive.
This year we are pleased to announce with the gracious support of Human Appeal and Sa’ adah (Bradford) the 5th Annual Imran Sabir memorial lecture and dinner event to be held in Bradford entitled “Felicity in the face of Adversity” to be presented by Imam Siraj Wahhaj (USA), as part of his UK Malcolm X tour. Many parallels can be drawn between the struggle and trials faced by Malcolm X and those with a perceived disability, including recognition, identity and self-respect.
Shaykh Abdal Aziz (Chair of Kitaba) and Shaykh Yahya Rhodus (USA) will also present on the day with thought provoking spoken word poetry by Baraka Blue and Basheer Jones from the USA, personal experiences of living with visual impairment and the opportunity over dinner to meet, socialise and network with others from the visually impaired community from various parts of the UK.
